Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angola may become the world’s largest diamond producer in the near future, Endiama’s Executive Director, Laureano Paulo, stated in Luanda.<\/b><\/p>\n

Angola is the second largest diamond producer in Africa and the fourth largest in the world, surpassed by Russia, Botswana, and Canada.<\/p>\n

During his speech on the topic “The Future of the Diamond Subsector: Reserves, Innovation, and Added Value” at Expo Catoca 30 Years in Luanda, Paulo stated that Angola is the only country with proven<\/p>\n

reserves and new prospects for kimberlites ready to enter production, which puts it on track to become the global epicenter of the diamond industry.<\/p>\n

“The country intends to consolidate itself as a global benchmark in the sector, not only in terms of extraction, but also in terms of transformation and social and economic impact,” he emphasized.<\/p>\n

According to him, projections for 2025 suggest revenues of up to US$2.13 billion and production that could reach 17 million carats by 2027, driven by mines like Luele and the entry into operation of kimberlite.<\/p>\n

He noted that of the 50 existing diamond projects in the country, only 24 are currently in operation, including four kimberlites and more than 20 alluvial deposits.<\/p>\n

The administrator also highlighted the role of international partnerships, such as those Endiama maintains with De Beers, as well as the investment in diamond cutting in the country, with the creation<\/p>\n

of the Saurimo Development Hub and the future installation of cutting factories.<\/p>\n

“We cannot continue to rely solely on the export of rough diamonds; we need to add value and develop the national jewelry industry,” he emphasized.<\/p>\n

In addition to diamond production, Endiama announced investments in other strategic sectors, such as a gold refinery, scheduled for this year, and agricultural projects through Endiagro, to generate more<\/p>\n

jobs in the Lunda north and south provinces and diversify the local economy. He added that Angola has estimated reserves of over 800 million carats, sufficient for the next 50 years.<\/p>\n
