Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Sacomar Mining Terminal and the Container Terminal of the Moc\u0327a\u0302medes Commercial Port, in the south-western Province of Namibe, is scheduled to be open in October this year, thus marking the beginning of operations under the Integrated Bay Development Project in this location,<\/b><\/p>\n

The information was made public Thursday by the minister of Transport, Ricardo D’Abreu, after conducting an inspection visit to these projects.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the press, he expressed happiness due to the level of execution of the works, noting that this is a highly complex engineering project, with the introduction of new technologies and new equipment.<\/p>\n

He highlighted the economic impact for the southern region, emphasizing that the Port of Namibe becomes the second in the country to have such facilities, emphasizing as well that the port also benefited from the addition of new vessels and new buildings.<\/p>\n

According to Ricardo D\u2019Abreu, the project will boost Angola\u2019s integration into the continent\u2019s Southern Region and will be a crucial infrastructure for achieving this objective.<\/p>\n

Ricardo D’Abreu emphasized that a tender for the management of the Southern Corridor will be held soon and it will also integrate the infrastructure of the Moc\u0327a\u0302medes Railway (CFM), allowing for the installation of logistics platforms along this corridor, with private sector participation.<\/p>\n

In turn, the representative of Toyota Tsusho Corporation in Angola, Nuno Borges, announced that the construction of the Sacomar Mining Terminal was completed on schedule, while the construction of the Commercial Port will be completed later this month.<\/p>\n

According to the source, the Mining Terminal will have the capacity to receive ships of up to 250,000 tons and export approximately 10 million tons of ore per year.<\/p>\n

He noted that this infrastructure includes a jetty with 520 meters long and 18 meters wide, making it the only Mining Port in southern Angola and a strategic point for the export of minerals in Angola.<\/p>\n

At the time, the coordinator of the project’s operations office, Joaquim Neto, stated that the construction, which began in October 2022, is in its final stages, with the terminal already being modernized with 500-ton cranes, among other equipment.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have acceptable depth, an alternative power source, and 300 meters to berth vessels weighing 60,000 and 70,000 tons\u201d, he emphasized.<\/p>\n

He mentioned that the Container Terminal will be subject to a concession, expecting that it might generate approximately 100 jobs.<\/p>\n

In turn, the provincial governor of Namibe, Archer Mangueira, emphasized that the infrastructure will boost economic diversification in the country, specifically in the provinces located in the southern region.<\/p>\n

“We will have an important project here, not only for the province, but also for the region, impacting people’s lives because it will generate jobs and services, creating multiplier effects in different areas”, he assured.<\/p>\n

The project includes the expansion and modernization of the Sacomar Commercial and Mineral Port and the construction of the new container terminal, projects carried out by the Toyota Tsusho consortium, at a cost of USD 600 million.<\/p>\n

The execution of the project generated more than 1,500 jobs.<\/p>\n
