Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Acts of vandalism and theft of low-voltage electrical cables from the public network, carried out by unknown persons, are leaving many peripheral neighborhoods of the city of Huambo in the dark.<\/b><\/p>\n

This is said by the provincial director of the National Electricity Distribution Company (ENDE), Jos\u00e9 Cunha, adding that thefts of electrical cables are frequent in the neighborhoods of Cavongue-Alto, Ngulonda, Bom-Pastor, Cacilhas, Chivela, Santo-Ant\u00f3nio , Canhe, Chiva and Tinguita, where many investments were made.<\/p>\n

“The theft of electrical cables from the public power grid makes new connections unfeasible, since large investments are required. I appeal to the population to be extremely vigilant and to denounce acts of vandalism”, he underlined.<\/p>\n

According to Jos\u00e9 Cunha, ENDE in Huambo province has been facing difficulties in replacing stolen electrical equipment, which means that many streets that were already lit are now dark.<\/p>\n

The Municipal Administration, he guaranteed, has been working with the residents’ committees, aiming at reinforcing the inspection of electrical equipment.<\/p>\n

He assured that the National Police, through the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), is taking steps to arrest those dedicated to vandalizing and stealing electrical cables.<\/p>\n
