Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Helena Chimena, Deputy Governor of Cubango Province for Political, Social, and Economic Affairs, recognized on Wednesday in Menongue the crucial role of traditional authorities as true pillars of social cohesion and guardians of the communities’ cultural identity.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking at the opening of the National Association of Traditional Sovereignty (ANSTA) meeting, she expressed gratitude for choosing Cubango to host the event, which brings together representatives from various regions of the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are honored to have the opportunity to host this magnificent gathering on behalf of the peoples of our Angolan cultural mosaic,\u201d she declared, emphasizing that traditional authorities represent the pride and historical and cultural vanguard of the peoples of Africa and, in particular, Angola.\u201d<\/p>\n

The deputy governor emphasized that, throughout history, traditional authorities have played fundamental roles in resolving conflicts, promoting community development, and maintaining order, especially in rural areas where the presence of state administrative structures is limited.<\/p>\n

For Helena Chimena, traditional leaders should be seen as mediators between the state and communities, agents of justice under customary law, and guardians of the values and cultural memory of the people.<\/p>\n

She recalled that long before the arrival of the Portuguese in Angola in 1482, communities already had their own forms of social, political, and cultural organization, sustained by the actions of traditional authorities.<\/p>\n

According to the deputy governor, the ANSTA meeting should serve to deepen cooperation between traditional authorities and state administrative bodies, in a logic of complementarity and promoting the social well-being of the populations.<\/p>\n

The chairperson of the Assembly of the National Association of Traditional Sovereignty (ANSTA), King Mwatchissengue Watembo, emphasized that traditional power has always been present in the lives of communities and is recognized by the State for its role in resolving local problems, since they are partners of the Government, as they share the same mission of ensuring the common well-being.<\/p>\n
