Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier arrived on Tuesday, (04) in Luanda, for a three-day official visit at the invitation of his Angolan counterpart, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o.<\/b><\/p>\n

Upon arriving at the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, he was received by the Angolan Foreign minister, Te\u0301te Anto\u0301nio.<\/p>\n

Frank-Walter Steinmeier is expected to be received on Wednesday at the Presidential Palace with military honors, before laying a wreath at the sarcophagus of Angola’s first president, Anto\u0301nio Agostinho Neto.<\/p>\n

During this visit, the two countries will discuss issues related to bilateral cooperation, with emphasis on the energy, technical education, industry and technological innovation sectors.<\/p>\n

The German statesman’s agenda also includes a trip to Huambo Province, where he will see the progress of projects financed by his country.<\/p>\n

Relations between Angola and Germany date back to the 1970s, when Berlin officially became aware of the Angolan state.<\/p>\n

At that time, the then German Democratic Republic (GDR) received hundreds of young Angolans for technical and university training, creating the basis for cooperation that would strengthen after German reunification.<\/p>\n

In 2003, the two countries approved the Agreement for the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investments, which entered into force in 2007.<\/p>\n

In 2011, a comprehensive partnership was established with the creation of a Bilateral Commission responsible for political, economic, and cultural dialogue.<\/p>\n

In the educational field, Germany has supported Angola with scholarships and technical-professional training programs.<\/p>\n

In the energy sector, the two countries cooperate on renewable energy and green hydrogen projects, integrated into the global energy transition strategy.<\/p>\n

German companies operate in the country in areas such as infrastructure, engineering, technology and industry, and bilateral trade exceeded 640 million euros in 2023.<\/p>\n

There are also joint initiatives for the preservation of cultural heritage, such as the cooperation between the National Museum of Anthropology in the province ofLuanda and the Ethnological Museum of Berlin.<\/p>\n

However, the visit of Frank-Walter Steinmeier symbolizes a new stage in consolidating the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries, focusing on sustainable development, innovation, and strengthening institutions.<\/p>\n
