Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angolan music, gastronomy, and fashion, defining traits of the national culture, marked the celebration of Angola’s 50th anniversary of independence in London on Saturday.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to a press release accessed, Sunday, the event was organized by the Angolan Embassy in the United Kingdom of Great Britain, Northern Ireland, and Ireland, and brought together diplomats and members of the Angolan community.<\/p>\n

The gathering involved a considerable number of Angolans residing in various regions of England, including representatives from Ireland, and served as an early celebration of November 11th, National Independence Day.In a relaxed atmosphere, the Angolan ambassador to the United Kingdom, Jose\u0301 Patri\u0301cio, took the guests on a “journey” through Angola, discussing its history and future prospects.<\/p>\n

Jose\u0301 Patri\u0301cio emphasized that, 50 years after independence, Angola has everything it needs to overcome the challenges of sustainable development, the transformation of its raw materials, and its immense natural resources.<\/p>\n

The Angolan diplomat highlighted that the country possesses natural and mineral resources, a rich flora and fauna, beautiful landscapes, enchanting tourist destinations, and cultural diversity that represent a factor of development.<\/p>\n

“We have abundant riches: timber, coffee, iron, copper, gold, diamonds, oil, dances and traditions, impressive tourist destinations, and a diaspora as an indispensable asset of the State,” he asserted.<\/p>\n

The cultural component was provided by the Batoto Yetu Group, the musician Biura, and two singers from the Angolan community, specifically Wilma Assis and Yilly Ruel from Liverpool. A fashion show was held featuring traditional costumes from the country’s 21 provinces.<\/p>\n

Miss Universe 2011, Leila Lopes, an Angolan resident in London, also walked the runway, coordinating the glamorous moment during the gala.To the rhythm of national sounds and tones, and to the taste of Angolan gastronomy, the winners of the Poetry and Drawing Competition, alluding to the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of National Independence, were awarded prizes in the children’s and youth categories, an initiative of the Embassy and the Consulate General of Angola in the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n
