Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Ada\u0303o Francisco Correia de Almeida on Monday, in Luanda, became the sixth Speaker of the National Assembly (Angolan parliament), after being unanimously elected by the 196 MPs present at the plenary session.<\/b><\/p>\n

The 46 year-old politician takes over the post as the youngest to lead the Parliament since the institutionalization of multi-party democracy, marking a generational shift in the leadership of the Angolan parliament.<\/p>\n

The election took place during the 1st Ordinary Plenary Session of the 4th Legislative Session of the 5th Legislature, in an atmosphere considered to be of strong political consensus.<\/p>\n

Without any dissenting votes or abstentions, Ada\u0303o de Almeida received the ceremonial hammer from the outgoing speaker, Carolina Cerqueira, in a ceremony that symbolized the leadership transition and the beginning of a new stage in the Angolan legislature.<\/p>\n

The first speaker of the National Assembly under the multi-party system, starting in 1992, was Fernando Jose\u0301 de Franc\u0327a Dias Van-Du\u0301nem, who played a role in the institutional transition during the first legislatures.<\/p>\n

He was succeeded by Roberto Francisco de Almeida, who held the position until 2008, then replaced by Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos (Nando\u0301), who remained in office between 2008 and 2010, and succeeded by Paulo Kassoma between 2010 and 2012.<\/p>\n

In 2012, \u201cNando\u0301\u201d returned for a second term, which extended until 2022, when Carolina Cerqueira took over the leadership, becoming the first woman to hold the position.<\/p>\n

With the end of her term, Ada\u0303o de Almeida became the sixth speaker of the house of laws.<\/p>\n

His unanimous election reinforces the climate of internal stability and signals a broad confidence among MPs in his ability to represent Parliament during a period of significant political and social challenges.<\/p>\n

In his inaugural address, Ada\u0303o de Almeida highlighted the need to prepare Angola for a rapidly changing world, warning of new global dynamics and advocating for greater African leadership on the international stage.<\/p>\n

With youth spirit, technical experience and strong political skills, Ada\u0303o de Almeida began a mandate that could redefine the role of the National Assembly in the country’s governance, consolidating it as a central institution for democratic debate and legislative process.<\/p>\n

With a degree in Law, he was born on May 13, 1979, in Luanda. He has a solid career in the executive branch, notably as Minister of Territorial Administration and State Reform and later, as Minister of State and Chief of Staff to the President of the Republic.<\/p>\n

Ada\u0303o de Almeida, who was once a MP, returned to Parliament at a crucial moment, coinciding with the revision of the General State Budget for 2026 and with approximately two years remaining in the current legislature.<\/p>\n

However, he will play a decisive role in guiding the debates and the legislative process, where the Electoral Legislative Package and local authorities stand out.<\/p>\n
