Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>As part of the Angola Electricity Grid Expansion Program, the provinces of Huila and Namibe are now connected to the national electricity system, which is powered by the Gove Hydroelectric Power Plant in Huambo province.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to a statement from the Ministry of Energy and Water sent on Saturday, the line began operating experimentally at the end of October, covering a distance of 213 kilometers, with a power of approximately 682 MVA, encompassing the towns of Matala, Quipungo, Capelongo, Lubango, Humpata, Chibia, Bibala, and Moc\u0327a\u0302medes.<\/p>\n

The interconnection of the Southern Region represents a drastic reduction in fuel consumption, saving billions for the State coffers, in addition to safeguarding the environment, with the gradual decommissioning of thermal power plants, according to the note.<\/p>\n

It adds that the connection will allow the promotion of the regional economy and leverage the industrial sector in the Southern region, where the extractive mining industry stands out and dominating employment in this part of the country.<\/p>\n

This is a strategic project of the Angolan government implemented by the Ministry of Energy and Water, which directly changes the way of life of 350,000 families in that region, providing clean, cheap and more efficient energy, improving their living conditions and the well-being of thousands of citizens.<\/p>\n
