These plans include introducing high-capacity projects and launching the Luanda surface metro in 2026.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>While presenting the government&#8217;s strategy for the movement of people and goods in Angola at the fourth edition of the Conversas Economia 100 Makas program, he stated that the government intends to complete all the necessary preparations this year to begin construction on the surface metro in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>According to the minister, strengthening the urban mobility system with resources is not enough, structural issues must also be addressed to change the current situation in the country.<\/p>\n<p>He mentioned that the Program for the Improvement of Urban Mobility in Luanda (PRO-MMUL) was recently approved. This program includes railway, light rail, and bus rapid transit (BRT) initiatives. These are high-capacity systems that are easier to implement.<\/p>\n<p>The program aims to solve mobility problems in Luanda by developing a new surface metro system, constructing overpasses, and creating high-capacity bus corridor, it also includes modernizing public transportation by strengthening the bus fleet and implementing a real-time control and monitoring system.<\/p>\n<p>He emphasized that accelerated population growth in Luanda is one of the major issues in the infrastructure sector and requires the government to make urgent decisions and implement programs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If we take too long to decide and implementation is delayed, there will be more people and we won&#8217;t have solutions.
