Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The African Youth Games, which will take place from December 10 to 20 in Luanda and Bengo provinces, will set a new record for participation in multidisciplinary events organized by Angola.<\/b><\/p>\n

The previous event with the highest participation was the second Central African Games, held at the Cidadela stadium from August 20, 1981. Eight types of sports and 12 countries participated in that event.<\/p>\n

The current event is reserved for young people up to 17 years of age and will have a much higher turnout.<\/p>\n

According to the Organizing Committee of the African Youth Games (JAJ), 54 African countries, 2,100 athletes, and 23 sports will be present in Luanda and Bengo.<\/p>\n

Gustavo da Conceic\u0327a\u0303o, a JAJ member, reiterated this during the IV consultation meeting promoted by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Rui Falca\u0303o, and the national press. This meeting was held within the framework of participatory management adopted since da Conceic\u0327a\u0303o’s appointment in 2024.<\/p>\n

He confirmed that the opening ceremony of the continental event is scheduled for December 13 at the Kilamba Pavilion or the 11 de Novembro Stadium, although the event begins on December 10.<\/p>\n

Conceic\u0327a\u0303o said the event will be witnessed by Kirsty Coventry, the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and a former Zimbabwean swimmer. Coventry took office last June, becoming the first woman and the first African to lead the organization.<\/p>\n
