Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angola participates, from Monday until the 16th of this month, in the World Conference on Telecommunications Development \u2013 \u200b\u200bWTDC 2022, in the capital of Rwanda, Kigali, with a delegation led by the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Information Technologies, M\u00e1rio Augusto da Silva Oliveira.<\/b><\/p>\n

The team also includes high-level officials from the ministries of Telecommunications, Information and Social Communication Technologies, Foreign Affairs and the Angolan Institute of Communications – INACOM.<\/p>\n

The International Telecommunications Union – ITU, through the Telecommunications Development Department, organizes every four years between two Plenipotentiary Conferences to outline strategies and objectives for the development of Telecommunications\/ICT, defining the future direction of the sector.<\/p>\n

The conference takes place in physical format with the theme “Connecting the disconnected to achieve sustainable development”. According to the organization, the WTDC is a unique opportunity to develop innovative approaches and new models of collaboration for connectivity and digital solutions, in this last decade of action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).<\/p>\n

At a time when access to digital technologies has never been more important, the WTDC represents an unmissable opportunity to unleash the power of digital partnership to deliver on the promises of sustainable development to 2030.<\/p>\n

In this vein, the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Information Technologies, M\u00e1rio Oliveira, participated in a meeting of the African Telecommunications Union, during which African leaders sought to define a unique position for the continent in decisions at a global level within the scope of the ITU.<\/p>\n

In addition, it held meetings with high-level delegations from Turkey, Lithuania, South Africa, the United States of America and Azerbaijan, addressing issues of collaboration in areas of mutual priority for the development of Telecommunications\/ICT and for those who have candidates. to management positions for ITU.<\/p>\n

In this regard, they requested Angola’s support in the votes that will take place in September at the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2022.<\/p>\n

Digital Coalition<\/b><\/p>\n

Angola participated in Partner2Connect, which is a digital coalition, on Tuesday and Thursday. It has mobilized leaders from Governments, the Global Technologies sector and others to bring digital inclusion to the hardest-to-connect communities so that when it comes to digital opportunities, no one is left behind.<\/p>\n

Partner2Connect (Digital Coalition) served as a leadership-level platform to engage all stakeholders to mobilize and announce new resources, partnerships and commitments to achieve universal and meaningful connectivity, winning the Sustainable Development Goals race, with a view to elimination of the digital divide by 2030.<\/p>\n

For the event organizers, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) form the backbone of today’s digital economy and have enormous potential to accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals and improve people’s lives in a fundamental way.<\/p>\n

Partner2Connect (also known as P2C) is a multi-sector alliance launched by the ITU in close cooperation with the Office of the Secretary-General’s Technology Envoy and in line with the United Nations – UN Secretary-General’s Roadmap for Digital Cooperation , to promote meaningful connectivity and digital transformation globally, with a focus on, but not limited to, the hardest-to-connect communities in Least Developed Countries and Developing Countries.<\/p>\n

According to M\u00e1rio Oliveira, the Angolan technicians shared experiences during the event on the Youth Summit, held from 2 to 4 June, in a face-to-face format in Kigali, within the scope of the WTDC, in which the youth addressed the digital divide and topics related, including digital skills, gender, climate change, online safety, future of work, entrepreneurship and digital addictions.<\/p>\n

The Network of Woman – ITU Women’s Network is still ongoing, within the scope of the WTDC, started on 6 June, with the aim of establishing a medium and long-term community, in which delegates support each other, expand contact networks, they promote the work and share experiences and knowledge, increase the visibility of women and enable them to assume more responsibilities in their delegations to the event.<\/p>\n

In the same activity, they are included in similar platforms in the future, encouraging experienced delegates to serve as mentors to ICT professionals, in order to establish a more solid foundation for them in the digital space and, in this particular, Angola has the participation of three women.<\/p>\n
