Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The minister of Health, Si\u0301lvia Lutucuta, reiterated on, in Luanda, the urgent need to reinforce the quality and humanization of services provided in the capital’s maternity wards.<\/b><\/p>\n

The minister made this reaffirmation during a meeting with the directors of infant-maternal hospital units, held at the Pedro Maria Tonha “Pedale\u0301” General Hospital Complex, which brought together officials from various health institutions.<\/p>\n

The objective of the meeting was to assess the main challenges faced by the sector and find solutions to improve care for pregnant women and newborns.<\/p>\n

According to the minister, the meeting allowed for an in-depth analysis of the existing weaknesses in maternity wards, with emphasis on issues related to the care quality, organization of services and response capacity in emergency stancies.<\/p>\n

During his speech, he highlighted critical issues such as the inadequate transfer of critically ill patients, delays in attending to obstetric emergencies, and failures in monitoring during transport between healthcare facilities.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe cannot be receiving deaths at the hospital door. We can prevent deaths if we are able to attract all pregnant women to our pre-birth consultations,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n

The minister also advocated for greater rigor in the management of human resources, announcing disciplinary measures for professionals who do not properly fulfill their duties, including the return of undue overtime and the opening of administrative proceedings.<\/p>\n

In the area of training, she highlighted the importance of continuous training for health professionals, focusing on preparing young doctors for surgical interventions and improving the response to obstetric emergencies.<\/p>\n

Among the measures defined at the meeting are the creation of specialized consultation lines, the organization of 4 reinforced centers for the care of obstetric emergencies, increased oversight in health units, and the strengthening of practical training in a hospital environment.<\/p>\n

Actions were also outlined to improve the patient referral and transport system, as well as pre-birth care and labor monitoring, using updated clinical instruments.<\/p>\n

At the close of the meeting, Si\u0301lvia Lutucuta emphasized the need for more humane and responsible care, reinforcing the sector’s commitment to reducing maternal and neonatal mortality and improving the quality of health services in Luanda.<\/p>\n
