{"id":98907,"date":"2026-04-14T10:40:16","date_gmt":"2026-04-14T10:40:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/angola\/all-news\/national-water-council-allocates-over-akz-200-million-for-2026"},"modified":"2026-04-14T10:40:16","modified_gmt":"2026-04-14T10:40:16","slug":"national-water-council-allocates-over-akz-200-million-for-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/angola\/all-news\/national-water-council-allocates-over-akz-200-million-for-2026","title":{"rendered":"National Water Council Allocates over Akz 200 Million for 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Angola. <\/strong><\/span><b>At least 260 million kwanzas is the budget for the activity plan of the National Water Council (CNA), in 2026, the Minister of Energy and Water, Joa\u0303o Baptista Borges, reported on Monday (13) in Luanda.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The government official, who was speaking at the end of the 1st Ordinary Session of the National Water Council (CNA), chaired by the vice-president of the Republic, Esperanc\u0327a da Costa, indicated that the budget will cover the various actions, including support for trips by technical teams to the various provinces in fields of multisectoral action.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have frequent visits to irrigated perimeters and drought-fighting works, such as the Cafu canal and the Ndue and Calucuvo dams, the latter of which have associated canals where there is agricultural potential that will be harnessed or explored&#8221;, he emphasized.<\/p>\n<p>In this context, the minister announced that the organization of the World Water Congress in Angola is scheduled for September of this year, remembering that the African Union (AU) decreed 2026 as the Year of Water.<\/p>\n<p>Joa\u0303o Baptista Borges stressed that, in this context, the country intends to present everything that is done in favor of the good use and preservation of water resources.<\/p>\n<p>According to Minister Joa\u0303o Baptista Borges, the Executive Committee also has, among its duties, the duty to develop a strategy for the preservation of river sources, their water towers, that is, those most important rivers such as Cunene, Cubango, Keve, Longa and Catumbela, as the protection of the places where they originate is a primordial activity.<\/p>\n<p>He highlighted that the intervention of entities that are mainly dedicated to mining and that operate in springs has been observed, meaning that the future of these sources and, naturally, water resources, could be put at risk.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHence the need for more effective action to preserve the springs through a strategy to be developed soon, this being one of the actions included in the budget proposal and the activity plan of the National Water Council (CNA) for 2026\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n<p>He also highlighted that, in relation to the level of execution of the deliberations of the previous meeting, there had been progress in matters linked to the strategy to combat water mining in the province of Luanda, the dam inventory project, the national registry of water resources and the total sanitation program led by the community and schools (STLCE).<\/p>\n<p>Joa\u0303o Baptista Borges informed that the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas presented a survey of the potential of groundwater on the border with Namibia, one of the largest aquifers that the country has, and that it could be an important contribution to the program of access to water and combating the effects of drought in southern Angola for populations living in the provinces of Cuando, Cubango, Hui\u0301la, Cunene and Namibe.<\/p>\n<p>He said that an assessment of the situation was made in relation to the town of Caxarandanda, for which a road access project was designed.<\/p>\n<p>Council members were also informed about the main challenges in implementing the protection of the sources of the country&#8217;s main rivers, the rehabilitation of the access road from the village of Muxima (Icolo and Bengo) to the town of Caxarandanda, the protection of water sources in the highlands of Angola, as well as the regular operation of irrigated perimeters and irrigation channels.<\/p>\n<p>He added that, within the scope of the activity plan for 2026, the members recommended that priority be given to the strategy of consolidating the level of organization and functioning of the CNA, implementation of the 2023\/2027 action plan, operation of irrigated perimeters and irrigation channels, reinforcement of measures to combat water mining in the province of Luanda and other actions, which contribute to improving the supply of this liquid to the populations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Angola<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Angola.
