Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Ministry of Energy and Water has said that water security and socioeconomic development in Cunene province are gaining new momentum with the expected completion of the Calucuve dam in the municipality of Cuvelai in July.<\/b><\/p>\n

The infrastructure is under construction in the Mukolongondjo commune, with a height of 31.69 meters, a length of 2,184 meters, and a capacity to store 141 million cubic meters of water, built along a 240-kilometer extension of the water supply canal.<\/p>\n

According to a note from the Ministry of Energy and Water, sent on Thursday, the project is part of the Program to Combat the Effects of Drought in Southern Angola (PCESSA) and aims to mitigate the effects of the cyclical drought affecting the region, through a strategic investment by the Angolan Executive.<\/p>\n

At the end of first phase, the dam will supply water to more than 80,000 inhabitants, directly impacting the quality of life of local populations as well as supply water for 200,000 head of cattle, strengthening the agricultural sector, the main economic base of local communities.<\/p>\n

The Calucuve Dam joins other structuring projects in the region, such as the Cunene River water transfer system (Cafu), consolidating the water resources management strategy for sustainable economic growth and the retention of populations in their areas of origin.<\/p>\n
