Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angolan President Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o called on Saturday for an end to the conflicts in the Middle East and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz through negotiation.<\/b><\/p>\n

The President made the appeal during a meeting with Pope Leo XIV, who is in the African country for a four-day visit civil.<\/p>\n

Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o described the Middle East as region as the cradle of great civilizations and religions such as Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, underscoring that it should be a place of peace, concord, and fraternity.<\/p>\n

The president expressed concern about the suffering of the peoples of Palestine, Lebanon, and the Persian Gulf countries, whose economies have been affected by the wars.<\/p>\n

Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o called for a definitive end to hostilities, the opening of the Strait of Hormuz through negotiation, and establishment of a lasting peace, warning of the risk of escalating conflicts on a global scale.<\/p>\n

The Angolan stated that the world should be seen as a space for coexistence among peoples of different cultures and religions, where diversity does not prevent peaceful coexistence.<\/p>\n

Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o reinforced that “only in peace and harmony” can peoples fully enjoy the available natural resources, lamenting, however, the growing global dispute over raw materials, energy resources and minerals, often through the use of military force against sovereign states.<\/p>\n

The Angolan stressed that international trade has clear rules that allow access to resources through contracts and agreements, without the need to resort to war, warning of the “dangerous” moment the world is going through, marked by the proliferation of conflicts on several continents.<\/p>\n

Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o requested the Pope to continue exercising his moral role in promoting dialogue, reconciliation and the appreciation of humanist principles and defended the need for concerted action between world leaders and figures of recognized moral authority, in order to guarantee that justice and dialogue prevail in international relations.<\/p>\n
