Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The non-resident ambassador of Ethiopia to Angola, Mekuria Getachew, expressed on Tuesday his country’s intention to open a chancery in Luanda to promote the strengthening of bilateral relations.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mirex) sent, the Ethiopian diplomat was speaking during an audience granted to him by the Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Te\u0301te Anto\u0301nio.<\/p>\n

The meeting took place following the recent presentation of the Ethiopian diplomat’s Letters of Credence to the President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, as Ethiopia’s ambassador to Angola, residing in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).<\/p>\n

The occasion also allowed for an exchange of views on bilateral and regional issues of common interest.<\/p>\n

On the bilateral level, they discussed the state of cooperation relations and the need to accelerate the conclusion of several sectoral legal instruments currently under negotiation between the two countries.<\/p>\n

\u201cEthiopia has a resident community in Angola, whose presence has contributed to the dynamism of economic and commercial exchanges between the two countries,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

The note emphasizes that, in the regional domain, the interlocutors addressed the political and security situation in the Horn of Africa, highlighting the relationship between Ethiopia and Eritrea, as well as the holding of the next Ethiopian general elections, scheduled for June of this year.<\/p>\n

Angola and Ethiopia maintain stable and historic diplomatic relations, based on friendship, solidarity and mutual cooperation.<\/p>\n

The two countries actively collaborate within the African Union (AU), whose headquarters are located in Addis Ababa, and share convergent positions on matters related to African integration, peace and security on the continent, as well as sustainable development.<\/p>\n
