The State has so far recovered US$12 billion in assets, through real estate and cash at home and abroad.

Speaking at the opening of the Seminar on Confiscation of Assets, at the National Institute of Judicial Studies, Joel Leonardo stressed that in the face of crimes such as extortion, money laundering, bribery, currency forgery, kidnapping, piracy, criminal association and trafficking in influence, an active and organized state legal intervention is necessary in the context of general and special prevention of the facts.

The also president of the Superior Council of the Judiciary, in the fulfillment of this challenge, highlighted the need for efficiency in judicial decisions, so that, in the face of new legal-procedural realities, crime and other illicit acts never come to compensate their agents.

To the magistrates, Joel Leonardo urged them to act with “high scientificity” so that the goods illegally removed from the patrimonial sphere return to exercise their social function in the interest of the community.

He said that it is necessary to improve the incessant search for learning capable of allowing the courts to produce transparent judicial decisions: “It will only be possible through the exchange of knowledge and experiences that strengthen international judicial dialogue, in particular, in current matters of undeniable transversality such as assets recovered in fair and equitable legal proceedings”.

To the trainees, the President of the Supreme Court encouraged them: “We will always learn so that the assets that constitute matters of crimes, resulting from judicial proceedings, legally established, perform their social function in the interest of the citizen and society, in general, and have a real impact on the daily lives of all citizens”.

Training, he underlined, enables judges to act differently, providing them with sufficient scientific knowledge to justly satisfy the legitimate expectations of citizens and society.

At the seminar entitled “Confiscation of assets for the training of magistrates”, the resident coordinator of the United Nations in Angola said that the recovery of assets should also be seen as an essential incentive to reduce social inequalities.

“It allows the return of revenues to the community and promotes an increase in investment in the social sector, thus building more resilient and egalitarian societies”, reaffirmed Zahira Virani.

He added that the recovery of assets has a direct impact on efforts to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and a vital step towards creating investments in the social sustainability of Angolans.

The initiative, he continued, demonstrates that the Government is prioritizing concrete and transformative actions to achieve the 2030 Agenda, stressing that the United Nations and the European Union believe in and support Angola’s efforts in building paths for equitable, sustainable and sustainable development. inclusive for all Angolans, “without leaving anyone behind”.

United Nations Highlights Impartial System

Zahira Virani congratulated the Executive on the steps that have been taken to build an efficient and impartial system for confiscating assets, in line with the commitment to combating economic crime.

The transformation of the world, through the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, he said, is centered on a vision of cooperation between organizations, governments and people. He considered the Agenda common and ambitious, not only because of the scope of the 17 SDGs, but because of the call for a constructive response, with the participation of the various actors in society.

The coordinator stressed that the existence of global cooperation, reinforced by interregional partnerships and international institutions, is crucial to boost the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and strengthen the sustainable development system in the most diverse areas.

The Portuguese ambassador to Angola, Francisco Duarte, welcomed the “reform work” developed by the Angolan authorities in recent years, above all, the fight against economic and financial crime, through the adoption of institutional and legislative reforms.

The ongoing work on preventing corruption and recovering assets, he acknowledged, has a multidimensional impact on societies, contributing to a solid democratic and lawful State towards socio-economic development and the improvement of Angola’s external image.

Speaking to the press, the deputy attorney general, Manuel Bambi, said that he was unaware of any information related to the auctions of the seized goods, in the cases “Lussati and Joaquim Sebastião”.

Without going into details, he stated: “I do not even have a mandate to refer to them. I cannot, at this time, confirm this information”.

Still on the media cases “Lussati and Peixeira Milionária”, Manuel Bambi clarified that everyone being treated at the Attorney General’s Office obeys the procedural rules.

As for the “Millionary Peixeira” he said that it has not yet passed: “There is one thing that is still being dealt with. “.

He informed that the investigation phase has already been completed and now, if there is a pronouncement, the case will be developed in terms of judgment, always complying with the procedural phases. “It is necessary to give time to time, respecting the procedural deadlines and the due procedural stages to have these results”.

For More News And Analysis About Angola Follow Africa-Press

Africa-Press – Angola.
