African Union salutes Gorbachev as he bids farewell to the last leader of the USSR

Africa-Press – Botswana. The President of the African Union, Macky Sall and the President of the Commission of the African Union, Moussa Faki Mahamat, paid tribute yesterday in the farewell of the last leader of the USSR, Mikhail Gorbachev, in their personal pages, on Twitter.

African Union (AU) President and Senegalese Head of State Macky Sall welcomed the memory of “the illustrious deceased” and offered his condolences “to the Russian people and their leaders. May his soul rest in peace.”

The president of the African Union (AU) Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, suggested that it was the former leader who “started a process that ended the Cold War” and that “changed the course of history”.
