Africa-Press – Botswana. The African Union congratulated the President-elect of Kenya, William Ruto, this Monday, following the validation by the court of the electoral results of the elections of 9 August, which was joined by several leaders on the continent.

” My warmest congratulations to President-elect William Ruto for being declared the fifth President of the Republic of Kenya, following confirmation of the election results,” African Union (AU) Commission Chair Moussa Faki Mahamat said in a message. posted on Twitter.

The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (Congo), FĂ©lix Tshisekedi, joined in the congratulations to Ruto, highlighting the “democratic maturity of the people of Kenya” and said he was willing to “work together to promote sustainable development, peace and prosperity” in the region.

The President of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, also said he hopes to work with Ruto “to strengthen and improve the good historical relations between Zambia and Kenya, always taking into account the common priorities of the two peoples”.

The leaders of Uganda and Burundi also posted congratulatory messages on Twitter, showing their willingness to strengthen relations with Kenya.

According to election figures, Vice President Wiliam Ruto won the August 9 presidential election with 50.49% of the vote, while former Prime Minister and opposition leader Raila Odinga, supported by Kenyatta, took 48.85% of the votes.

Ruto, 55, will take office on 13 September, becoming Kenya’s fifth president since independence in 1963.
