The African Water Facility (AWF) supported the Orange-Senqu River Basin Commission (ORASECOM) with pre-feasibility study for the preparation of Climate Resilient Water Resources Investment Strategy and Plan, and Lesotho-Bostwana Water Transfer Multipurpose Transboundary Project.

The project goals were to harness water in the Kingdom of Lesotho on the Makhaleng river to build a dam, supply water for livelihoods for communities in the South with potential production of more hydropower.

ORASECOM worked with partners to identify funding opportunities and ensure a robust scientific study of the project from feasibility to design.

AWF funding led to the completion of pre-feasibility study appraising the ecological sustainability of the project on completion.
