REGOENG ASSURES RESIDENTS OF SOLUTIONS TO CHALLENGES

Africa-Press – Botswana. Member of Parliament for Molepolole North, Mr Oabile Regoeng has assured Boribamo West ward residents that measures were in places to address challenges facing them.

Addressing residents on Tuesday, Mr Regoeng told them that some development projects would be implemented under the Constituency Community Projects fund.

During the meeting, some residents had complained about the delay in land allocation, untidy and polluted environment, water pipe leakages, lack of transport to referral hospitals, poor service delivery, particularly at health facilities, shortage of water, poor drainage and bad internal roads.

The meeting also heard that Ipelegeng workers were not paid on time and the allowance was not enough for them to support their families.

Some community members also argued that the Village Development Committee allowance was also insufficient.

Among many other issues that residents also complained about included drug and substance abuse by learners and children’s wayward behaviour.

On drug and alcohol abuse by learners, Mr Phetso Kgosiemang, a representative from Class Volunteers Foundation encouraged parents to work together with relevant authorities in addressing the challenge.

“Learners do not see anything wrong with smoking and drinking, so parents and the community need to work together to address the situation.

Drug and alcohol abuse does not only affect their future, but also their health at a young age.

Let us join hands to fight this stigma and protect the future of our country,” said Mr Kgosiemang.

He also encouraged them to work with the foundation, a new initiative under the Ministry of Health, mandated to deal with issues of drug and alcohol abuse among learners.

On shortage of water in the area, they were told that the pipeline project was ongoing and expected to be completed by March.

On the issue of transporting patients on referral, residents heard that efforts to assist were hampered by shortage of ambulances while some cases were referred to social workers.

Regarding the state of internal roads and congestion in the area, MP Regoeng told them that a bypass road would be constructed to ease traffic in the village.

He also told the residents that mobile police stations would be built and also that police stations would be constructed at Suping and Magokotswane wards in an effort to help fight crime, given that Molepolole was a big village.

On poor drainage, residents heard that some pit latrines may be discontinued.

In other issues, residents were also told that the report on the delimitation exercise that was undertaken last year would soon be published.

Further, the legislator encouraged parents to discipline their children, saying. ‘let us do so the right way and without fear of them reporting us to the police.

We also should not allow them to disrespect us to an extent that we call the police to come and solve our problems.”

Meanwhile, MP Regoeng appreciated those who volunteered in community projects, saying, ‘we appreciate your help and we will try and reward you for your helping hand.”

He also thanked residents for heeding his call to address them and also encouraged them to continue attending meetings in large numbers.
