Africa-Press – Botswana. Councillors, Mr Thatayaone Kehitile and Mr Tabona Masole of Dukwi and Marobela respectively are the first chairperson and deputy chairperson of the newly established Tutume District Council.
Mr Kehitile, who has been Tutume sub-council deputy chairperson contested for the position of chairperson against specially elected councillor Ishmael Mokgethi, who held the position from 2014-2019.
Mr Kehitile garnered 14 votes against Mr Mokgethi’s 12.
Mr Masole battled with Mr Anthony Chibane of Nshakashogwe and emerged victorious with 13 votes against 12. One vote was spoilt.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, the acting council secretary, Mr Milton Keitshokile said they were making history of electing first ever council chairperson and deputy for the newly established Tutume district council.
He noted that they were ushering in a new leadership which will lead the council until the next general elections in 2024.
Mr Keitshokile added that the upgrade came with some changes, which included two of the council wards; Mathangwane and Matsitama being moved to Tonota council.
