Africa-Press – Botswana. Debswana Building Forever Strategy strives to improve academic skills, hence the company’s investment in Boteti Dreams Academic Achievement Awards.

Orapa Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines (OLDM) corporate affairs manager Ms Bontle Maruatona said this during the Diamond Dream Awards at Letlhakane Senior Secondary School on Friday.

The awards, she said, were just one of the many projects that had been implemented by OLDM.

She stated that under the Debswana Building Forever Strategy, they had a number of programmes, which included the Debswana Government Schools Development Programme.

The programme focused on training and developing teachers in core subjects, she said.

To that end the school had also been awarded P20 000 in addition to the awards received by learners.

Other programmes she said, included the school digitisation project where, as part of phase one of the project, OLDM had spent P850 000 on procurement of laptops and projectors for 10 targeted schools in the Boteti region.

She encouraged diamond dream awards winners to utilise opportunities presented to them and continue to excel as they had done in the 2021 BGCSE results.

For his part, Mr Lekgotla Mongwewarona urged pupils to play a role an instrumental role in instilling good behaviour amongst their peers.

He stated that the nation was going through the most challenging era of the use of drugs by youngsters.

Mr Calvin George emerged as the best performing learner with A stars in all subjects except Setswana and won P16 000.

Mr George said he made use of past examination papers to prepare for tests.

He thanked his parents for their support and motivation.
