Africa-Press – Botswana. Botswana Defence Force (BDF) 2nd Brigade in Francistown has donated a multipurpose printer to Mabesekwa Primary School on Friday.

Speaking at the donation event, the brigade commander, Major General Joseph Seelo said they were in the process of adopting the primary school.

He said the school, which had not been doing well for the past few years, was close to the brigade’s heart.

Major General Seelo said in 2017, the same group donated printers and school uniforms to the school.

He said the donation by members of the BDF was in line with the army’s value of Botho.

He explained that BDF members saw it fit to add value to the lives of those pupils by bringing a world class printer to them for their use.

The P82 400 printer/photo copying machine can also be used for scanning, faxing, emailing and has an automatic feeder and can also staple multiple papers at a time.

Major General Seelo said the printer would not only benefit them alone, but would also be useful to other government institutions in the settlement as well as the community.

He explained that the money used to buy the printer came from the pockets of the BDF members who saw a need in assisting the country’s future leaders.

“It is important to realise that giving back to the community is one of the most important factors towards achieving one of our development millennium goals, which is to achieve universal primary education,” he added.

Major General Seelo said primary education was the root of education and the seedlings being planted at Mabesekwa Primary School should be nurtured.

“Everyone here is a product of primary education and without it, I wonder where most of us will be by now,” he said.

He therefore called on the school management to take care of the equipment and put it to good use and he advised pupils to take their education seriously because without education, one’s life would be doomed.

Major General Seelo further called on parents to play their parental role in the education of their children, saying education was a collective effort between teachers and parents.

“To you parents let us provide a friendly environment for the students to learn. I am not saying let us spoil our kids rather let us meet the teachers halfway in contributing towards our children’s education,” he said.

Meanwhile, the school head, Ms Mareledi Thipe, who could not hide her excitement thanked the BDF members for the donation and promised to put the equipment to good use.

She said the equipment would help the school improve its performance, further promising that the school would perform exceptional well in this year’s Primary’s School Leaving Examination (PSLE).
