Africa-Press – Botswana. Botswana Public Employees Union, (BOPEU) have hailed the recently tabled budget speech as a watershed moment for Botswana, more specifically because it is the first since Independence by a female Minister.

In their review BOPEU says this , being the first budget speech to be presented by a female Minister of Finance and Economic Development in Botswana, makes it a significant milestone considering a history of disproportionate representation of women in politics and parliament since independence in 1966.

The trade Union also observed that the budget proposal for the 2022/2023 financial year marks the end of the eleventh National Development Plan 11, which is a medium-term plan towards the country’s implementation of the Vision 2036.
