Africa-Press – Botswana. Botswana and Switzerland can achieve a lot as partners in development, President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has said.
Speaking during a gala dinner hosted in his honour by the Swiss Federal Council on Monday, he said the two countries’ relations had been strengthened with the signing of a declaration of intent on enhanced bilateral cooperation this week.
The declaration is aimed at boosting collaboration in areas of health, trade and investment, hospitality, education, arts and culture as well as agriculture.
Botswana and Switzerland have also launched a joint steering committee that will ensure effective implementation of the declaration of intent on cooperation in the field of health signed in February during President Berset’s visit to Botswana.
President Masisi urged the committee to move with speed to facilitate the declaration’s implementation.
On the official talks with his counterpart Mr Alain Berset, the President said they were productive and engaging.
“They were thought-provoking and brought out pertinent issues which have a bearing on specific projects and on collaborations of the two countries in general”, he said.
Meanwhile, President Berset has said the symbiotic relationship between Switzerland and Botswana offered a host of opportunities that could be explored and taken advantage of for the benefit of citizens and the world.
He said his country had a great friend in Botswana which gave optimism of great socio-economic achievements.
