Africa-Press – Botswana. Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) President, Mr Felix Tshisekedi wrapped up his four-day state visit to Botswana on Friday by officially opening the DRC embassy.

The opening of the embassy in Gaborone will ease consular services to Batswana and DRC residents staying in Botswana who were previously assisted in Pretoria, South Africa.

It will further smoothen relations between Botswana and DRC as the two countries have worked closely and continue to strengthen their friendship through common membership to regional and international organisations such as Southern African Development Community (SADC), African Union and share a common agenda on multilateralism issues.

During the visit, President Tshisekedi and President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi held official talks at Office of President, where they agreed to strengthen bilateral ties.

The two leaders further discussed exploring new opportunities in a number of sectors including mining, agriculture and governance.

President Tshisekedi who is also SADC chairperson, toured and addressed the SADC secretariat staff, visited Jwaneng mine and visited two diamond companies in Gaborone.

Botswana and DRC through their investment entities: the Botswana Investment Trade Centre and DRC National Agency for Promotion Investment held a business forum and signed a Memorundum of Understanding that would drive the two entities’ intentions. The MoU aims to promote trade and investment between the two countries by fostering collaborations in various fields such as tourism, mining, agriculture and infrastructure and outlines plans for exchange of information and expertise and establishment of a joint business council that would enhance private sector engagement.

President Tshisekedi also addressed the DRC nationals prior to his departure on Friday.
