Africa-Press – Botswana. The District Development Committee (DDC) is a critical arm of government responsible for ensuring developments and prosperity.

This therefore, makes it critical for the committee to work as a team, to see to it that services reach those that are intended for, Good Hope/Mbule Member of Parliament, Mr Eric Molale has said.

Addressing Good Hope District government departments’ management recently, Mr Molale talked about resource sharing and assisting one another for the benefit of the district.

He said DDC operations were contained in the Constitution hence failure to attend meetings by members was deemed a violation of the Constitution.

The MP said members would be held accountable should the district fair badly because planning and implementation of developments fell within their ambit.

Mr Molale who has worked for more than two decades of in the civil service, holding different portfolios from district commissioner to Permanent Secretary to the President, shared with them knowledge on how best to run a newly formed district.

He said the district commissioner being the top civil servant, should be respected to lead the district.

Good Hope Council chairperson, Mr Fanki Motsaathebe said the transition from a subordinate to a fully-fledged council brought with it manpower constraints, fleet and budget among other things and called on stakeholders to work together.

The council chairperson said the meeting with the MP would help them as district authorities to attain prosperity.
