Africa-Press – Botswana. Acquiring more than one land right by allocation from state or tribal land is violation of law.
A press statement from the Ministry of Lands and Water Affairs says the revised National Land Policy of 2019, paragraph 58, states that every citizen is eligible for one allocation of a residential plot on both state and tribal land, regardless of whether they purchased or inherited the land.
The Land Information System has revealed multiple plot allocations of some individuals at land boards, says the release.
The ministry continues to warn the public to desist from giving false information to the land boards as appropriate action will be taken for those who violate the law, states the release.
The release encourages the public to contact nearest land boards (for tribal land) or department of lands (for state land) to arrange how they could resolve the multiple acquisition of land rights.
