Africa-Press – Botswana. Good Hope water master plan project is progressing well.

Minister of Lands and Sanitation, Dr Kefentse Mzwinila told the media recently after a tour of the project that he was satisfied with the amount of work done by the contractors thus far.

He said the contractors had assured him that the project would be complete by September and November, according to the respective schedule.

“Excavation and laying of pipes is almost done while erecting of high rise tanks is the only major work that seems to be lagging behind. Nonetheless, I am optimistic that the contractors will stick to their promise as they have already done most of the works,” he said

He said contractors seldom dumped work after surpassing the 50 per cent mark, adding that the other positive development was their dedication and hard work on site.

Furthermore, Minister Mzwinila said they would continue to monitor the project, both from the ministry level and through officers, who were directly supervising it.

He applauded them for having hired most of the locals from the villages through which the project passed and encouraged them to do skills transfer.

The two-phased project, which was launched last year May, is valued at over P800 million.

It covers a little over 300 kilometres of pipeline.

Once complete, it is expected to service over 20 villages in the Good Hope District, which have been struggling with portable water.

Earlier on when briefing the minister, the contractors of Pitsane Photlhoko-Sekhutlhane project which is slightly behind schedule, said they were confident that they would hand over the project in November as agreed.

They pointed out that they had mitigation plans in place on how to make up for the time lost by engaging more manpower.

Pula Consultants project manager, Mr Olefile Tshoganetso said the Pitsane Phohloko-Sekhutlhane project was at 70 per cent instead of the expected 78 while the Good Hope-Sedibeng part was at the expected 78 per cent.

Good Hope District Council chairperson, Mr Fanki Motsaathebe said they were happy with the developments as the district had been suffering shortage of water.

He concurred with the minister that so far those tasked with doing the job were well on track, saying they had not received any negative feedback so far.
