Africa-Press – Botswana. Member of Parliament for Nkange, Dr Never Tshabang has informed residents of Maitengwe that the road to Tutume has been re-tendered after the first tender was cancelled.
Addressing a kgotla meeting in Maitengwe recently, Dr Tshabang explained that the road would be constructed by two separate contractors for the bridges and road. He said the road project was cancelled in order to include the Dagwi access road to the kgotla, and that they were still awaiting the outcome of the final tender.
He said the project for the bridges has started and that the contractor was at Nsuswane River bridge in Senete. He said the project was scheduled to take eight months from May 2023 to January 2024.
Still on projects undertaken in his constituency, he said the Maitengwe police station was still under construction and that the contractor was struggling to complete the project. He, however, said they were promised that the project would be handed over by the end of this month.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, Kgosi Onkemetse Chitu-Mazuwa told the MP about the high cross border crime rate in the village, saying they received numerous cases of use of force and armed robberies. He said they were hopeful that the new police station would deter criminals.
He also said farmers were losing their cattle to criminals that take them across the border as well as stolen vehicles. He urged the MP to push for the completion of the police station.
Village Development Committee chairperson, Mr Jonathan Buru said they experienced a high number of vehicles on transit through their border post, and that some of the vehicle were found with dagga and other prohibited goods.
