Africa-Press – Botswana. President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi on Monday sworn in Ms Mmako Abram as the new attorney general.

Ms Abram is taking over from Advocate Abraham Keetshabe whose tenure ended on May 31. Mr Keetshabe was at the helm of the Attorney General’s Chambers since 2017.

At the time of her appointment, Ms Abram was the deputy attorney general, international and commercial services since December 2018 and her career experience included advising government on all legal matters.

Swearing-in the new attorney general, President Masisi said Ms Abram was an experienced lawyer with a career span of 26 years in the judiciary.

Ms Abram holds a Master of Law in International Trade from the University of Stellenbosch.

She graduated from the University of Botswana in 1996 with a Bachelor’s of Law.

An experienced lawyer with broad knowledge of the international and commercial law, President said the new attorney general had among others worked on international assignments including the SADC-EU economic partnership agreement trade negotiations and the COMESA-EAC-SADC tripartite free trade agreement trade negotiations.

First and foremost, President Masisi welcomed and congratulated Ms Abram for taking the position and urged her to guide the department accordingly and work diligently for the sake of Botswana.

Taking the oath of office, Ms Abram promised that she would serve the government of Botswana in accordance with the laws of the country.
