Africa-Press – Botswana. The Botswana Defence Force (BDF) has confirmed the death of two females, following a dramatic 20-hour hostage incident.

According to a press statement from the BDF spokesperson, Fana Maswabi, the two females were confirmed dead upon arrival at the hospital. The soldier in question has since handed himself in after hours of negotiations.

The incident happened at the married couple’s residence at the Village Garrison.

“Following earlier communication regarding a BDF member who was holding some people hostage at his residential house in Village Garrison, the BDF wishes to inform members of the public that the situation has since been defused. The said member has been arrested and handed over to Botswana Police Service,” the statement reads.

The BDF further confirmed the death of two females, allegedly the man’s wife and an unidentified female.

“However, BDF regrets to inform members of the public that two females lost their lives due to the alleged shooting by the said BDF member. The BDF urges members of the public to remain calm as investigations into the matter continue. Furthermore, the BDF humbly requests members of the public to accord the families of the deceased the space to mourn their loved ones during this difficult time,” the statement further reads.
