Africa-Press – Botswana. Churches have been praised for playing an important role in nation building.

Officially opening City of Revelation Healing Church’s youth rally camp themed: Spread the Light, Share the Joy, in Lecheng on Saturday, Lerala/Maunatlala MP, Mr Sethabelo Modukanele said over the years the church had served as a trusted advisor to government officials, offering a moral compass and a foundation for ethical leadership rooted in religious values.

Mr Modukanele who is also Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development said churches had a moral obligation to lend their voice to the issues of corruption, injustice, impunity and other social ills in societies.

He said peace in Botswana was not by accident as the country’s founding fathers were God fearing people.

He expressed the wish to see more youth being rooted in Christ, obeying the teaching of God’s word, becoming fruitful in all His ways for the glory of God as well as growing in spiritual wisdom and understanding.

Mr Modukanele said such a move would help the youth to draw a line between virtue and immorality.

As for City of Revelation Healing Church’s presence in the village, Mr Modukanele expressed optimism that it would heal the land from social ills, pointing out that youth could rediscover themselves if they feared God.

He said indulgence in drugs and other habit forming substances by the youth was a concern as it destroyed lives, noting all parents wished their children the best in life but drugs derailed their path to greatness.

Appreciating the impact of churches in communities, he said churches united the nation through preaching the gospel, adding that no one was immune from challenges and therefore the church was a place of refuge.

Mr Modukanele said people behaved in a more decent manner when they feared God.

The City of Revelation Healing Church also donated 100 chairs to Lecheng Village Development Committee (VDC).

Appreciating the donation, Lecheng deputy chief, Kgosi Dintle Makwati thanked the church for its gesture and wished it more blessings to grow and assist more people who were in need.

City of Revelation Healing Church’s Archbishop Samuel Ntsebele said the youth rally camp was meant to impart knowledge and life skills to the youth so that they could become the best that they could in life.

He said the event was annual and the plan was to roll it out to other parts of the country to help improve livelihoods of Batswana.

He said the donated chairs would assist during kgotla meetings, weddings and funerals in the village.

University Chancellor of Inchrist Bible Institute University, Dr Malebogo Rathedi-Mazwigwila said the donation was to recognise VDC’s good work in taking the village forward.

She said the workshop was meant to mold youth, hone their skills and make them embedded into Christ.

She said knowing God meant youth businesses would prosper because HE was the God of blessings.
