Africa-Press – Botswana. Member of Parliament for Mmathethe/Molapowabojang, Dr Edwin Dikoloti in collaboration with Optical Centre and India Association of Botswana have donated eyeglasses and blankets to Gasita community.
Speaking during the donation ceremony on July 23 in Gasita, Dr Dikoloti who is also the Minister of Health, thanked Optical Centre and India Association of Botswana for the donations.
“We have nothing to give them but just to say thank you,” he said.
Dr Dikoloti said the event was in line with vision 2036 pillar on human and social development.
India Association of Botswana president, Mr Raj Kukreja, pointed out that they were donating and at the same time building relations with the community.
Mr Kukreja thanked Gasita residents and other sponsors for having afforded them the opportunity to assist the less privileged. He added that they had also donated to different communities in the country.
The Director of Optical Centre, Mr Shyam Arora, also thanked the community for the opportunity to serve them, adding that nothing could be better than assisting them.
He stressed that they prayed to God for blessings and upon getting results, it was right to share with others.
“We have been involved in numerous eye camps, such as this one, which focuses on providing free vision screening, free eye glasses as well as providing meals,” he said.
Mr Arora said they were looking forward to develop relationship, trust and mutual support leading into the future.
He said acknowledged the India Association of Botswana for being devoted to improving relations between the people of the two countries.
Mr Simon Ramaphoi, the councillor for Gasita, said the donation would play a vital role in assisting the country in attaining Vision 2036.
Good eye sight, he said, was important as it enabled people to easily carry out their daily activities, hence it was necessary for eyes to be looked after.
Mr Ramaphoi thanked the donors on behalf of the government and residents of Gasita, noting that the donations would definitely make a huge difference.
“We understand that you receive requests for assistance on daily basis and we thank you for making us a priority,” he added.
About one hundred eye glasses were given to residents after free vision screening while about hundred other community members received blankets
