Africa-Press – Botswana. A growing problem of bullying affecting mostly schools must be nipped at the bud.
A must have and read book, Kago Stops Bullying will soon hit the shelves to help those who had been victims of bullying and ill-treatment.
Speaking to BOPA, 10-year old author, Sethunya Itumeleng, said the book sought to spread the message against bullying, which she has no tolerance for, regardless of its form, and wanted it nipped in the bud, hence she wrote a book as a campaign against bullies.
Sethunya, a Standard 5 pupil at Saint Mary’s English Medium School in Tlokweng, said the book, her first work, has earned her the title Botswana Literature Awards 2023 Best Young Author.
The book speaks of how she saw bullying such as yelling at other children and cyber bullying taking place at school and around her, hence she decided to actively stand against it.
“I saw other kids being bullied at my school and I hate bullying,” she said. “I want bullying to stop.”
She said she did a poem against bullying during Botswana Literature Awards with the help of her mentor and manager, Paula Otukile, who is also an author and a poet.
Sethunya is looking to launch her book, published by Poetic Blood, this month and is engaged in a series of campaign against bullying by visiting schools and using both social and traditional media platforms.
