Africa-Press – Botswana. There are no immediate plans to avail an artificial insemination centre in Tonota constituency.

However, the project will be considered during the budgeting process of the National Development Plan (NDP) 12, says Minister of Agriculture, Mr Fidelis Molao.

Answering a question from Tonota legislator, Mr Pono Moatlhodi, Mr Molao said currently farmers in the constituency continued to be served through centres in Sefophe, Morupule and Makoba.

He said the ministry was intensively promoting the use of on-farm artificial insemination, where farmers were encouraged and assisted to inseminate their cows in their farms instead of talking them to the government artificial insemination centre.

He added that with the ministry in the process of implementing a phased privatisation of existing artificial insemination farms, more efficiency and outreach was expected.

Mr Moatlhodi had asked the minister whether there were any plans in place to avail an artificial insemination centre in Tonota constituency and if so, when and where within the constituency.
