Africa-Press – Botswana. Kanye police are investigating a case in which a six year old boy died after falling into a pit.

In an interview with on Monday(August 7), Kanye Police Station Commander, Supt Vincent Pitseetsile, explained that the boy fell in a sewage project pit in Ruele ward on Friday afternoon.

Supt Pitseetsile said when police arrived at the scene, the boy had already been transported to the hospital where he was certified dead upon arrival.

He advised parents to be aware of the whereabouts of their children and ensure that they play in safe environments.

Supt Pitseetsile also said they were also investigating two cases of stock theft, where a total of twelve goats were stolen from their kraals in Diabo.

He said the two cases were reported on August 1, noting that 10 goats were stolen in one kraal and two in a different kraal.

He added that on August 4, about 10 goat heads without identification tags were found dumped in a construction pit in Kanye, noting that they were waiting for farmers to come and identify them.

He urged farmers to always have someone present at night, as the culprits take advantage of their absence at farms. Meanwhile, Sejelo police station in Kanye is investigating a case where a 19-year old man defiled a 14-year old girl who was doing Form 1, on Sunday in Mmangwato ward.

Sejelo Police Station commander, Supt Mogomotsi Matlapeng, said the man was in their custody, assisting them with investigations.

He explained that the girl had been missing since August 4-6 and upon being interrogated, she informed her parents that she had been living with the man.

Supt. Matlapeng advised parents to bond with their children as that would assist in effective communication. He emphasised the need for parents to know people being visited by their children and the purpose of such visits.

He said police also registered a missing person case on July 19, where a man aged between 45-50 years from Mokgosi ward was reported missing.

“We then organised a search team which started looking for the man and was called off upon being informed of his return” he said. He said the man safely came back home on August 2, further thanking the general public for their sterling cooperation with the police.

Supt Matlapeng said other crimes such as stock theft were declining, attributing that to Kgomo khumo programme as well as assistance from the general public.
