Africa-Press – Botswana. Members of Botswana Defence Force have been commended for housing and rendering some dignity to Petrous’ family in Bobonong.

Speaking during the handover of the house, Minister of Defence and Security, Mr Kagiso Mmusi hailed the BDF through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for going beyond the call of their duty while simultaneously discharging their official duty of defending the territorial integrity of the country with utmost verve.

“I would like to commend and appreciate you (BDF) profusely for what you continue to do for this noble nation,” he said .

Minister Mmusi further commended BDF for working in conjunction with the communities and private entities to amongst other things house some members of the community and also engaging in spot improvement of some infrastructure.

The minister said that the house built for Ms Merciah Petrous was an benovelent gesture that helped not only the family, the community and council, but was also in partial fulfilment of the tenets of Vision 2036.

Ms Petrous, who is wheelchair-bound got involved in a car accident near Damuchojenaa enroute to hospital where she sustained some brain injuries.

She was accompanying her son, Lance Corporal Petrous who got injured during one of the BDF trainings and lost his right arm while also sustaining injuries to his leg.

Members of the BDF Eastern Military Garrison contributed over P140 000 for the project with some private companies helping in furnishing the house.

During the handover event, Kgosi Joel Masilo took note of the impact of BDF’s CSR, saying such acts dignified recipients of their selflessness.

“Housing is a basic need and this very house will protect the family against harsh weather conditions as well as according them some privacy,” said Kgosi Masilo.
