Africa-Press – Botswana. Upgrading of Tshesebe-Masunga road to bituminous standard and the associated access roads is at 92 per cent of completion says Principal District Officer-Developments Ms Omphile Mogorosi.
Addressing the North East District Council (NEDC) on Monday, Ms Mogorosi said the contractor was working outside the projected schedule as there had been delays in relocation of some civil infrastructure such as including Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) lines.
She said the project, which had been scheduled for completion on July 17, is now expected to be delivered in December at a budgeted cost of about P359.1 million.
Ms Mogorosi stated that the District was implementing 36 rehabilitation projects and 43 income-generating community projects.
She disclosed that a total 48 projects were operational, while 26 targeted projects were monitored this quarter.
“All monitored operational projects have created employment for 44 people and three projects have been approved for closure as they have failed due to group dynamics, relocation and death,” she said.
In animal production, she said LIMID programme had funded a total of 901 small stock projects, 332 Tswana chicken and 62 animal husbandry ventures since inception, and from the 901 small stock projects, 875 were operational while 26 are non-operational.
Ms Mogorosi said a total of 327 commercial licenses were issued this reporting quarter, and 209 of them were for informal sector while 118 were from the formal sector.
“This translates to 63 per cent of the attended application being of informal economy, which then reflects that the majority of businesses in our district are from the informal economy,” she said.
