Africa-Press – Botswana. There are various completed, planned and ongoing infrastructure projects geared towards development of the six Remote Area Development Programme (RADP) settlements within Jwaneng/Mabutsane constituency.
The projects, as explained in Parliament by the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Talita Monnakgotla were for improved road connectivity, access to education, clean water and electricity services.
“There are 83 projects executed at the settlements in the Jwaneng/Mabutsane constituency since the financial year 2017/2018, some completed and some still ongoing. In all, 13 of these are water, education, roads and electricity projects,” she said.
She said the ministry continued to ensure the development of reliable and sustainable infrastructure in these rural settlements through implementation of the Affirmative Action Framework for Remote Area Commnunities of 2014 and the Revised National Policy for Rural Development of 2002.
Ms Monnakgotla further said the Mabutsane Council through institutionalisation of Local Economic Development Framework has planned to undertake Local Economic Assessment before the end of the financial year to identify opportunities including those of indigenous products.
The area MP Mr Mephato Reatile had asked the assistant minister to brief the Parliament on the RADP projects in the constituency and initiatives in place to diversify income through use of indigenous knowledge and natural resources.
