Africa-Press – Botswana. The completion and handing over of Kaudwane Police Post is a boost to the security around the area and Khutse Game Reserve.
Built at a cost of over P1.2 million, Kaudwane Police Post comprises community service centre, consultation room, records management office, holding cell as well as post commander and deputy commander offices.
The facility is connected to a solar system, equipped with a backup generator, air conditioned and was handed over alongside a Toyota Land cruiser on December 15.
Minister of Defence and Security, Mr Kagiso Mmusi expressed confidence that it would improve security in Kaudwane and the vicinity as well as service tourists visiting Khutse Game Reserve.
Mr Mmusi said delivery of the post was testimony that Botswana cared to preserve peace and tranquility.
He said that the facility would help combat livestock theft rife in the area and Gender Based Violence.
He reflected that facilities like this should be a refuge for women and children who continued to live in fear hence said, the community should not despair but come forward to report any form of abuse.
The minister emphasised partnership between police and community, as an effective weapon in combating crime.
Mr Mmusi said that as much as government remained steadfast in resourcing the police, the onus to provide quality service was upon police officers.
During the current and next financial year, government plans to build 28 police stations including staff houses with an aim to ensure that police officers reside near police stations, Mr Mmusi said.
He said the police were well resourced to protect and maintain security of the country and its citizens hence were duty bound to provide quality service.
Giving a project overview, acting police commissioner, Mr Phemelo Ramakorwane said strategically located, Kaudwane Police Post would not only serve the community but would also service tourists visiting the Khutse reserve and ensure the safety of wild animals in the reserve.
He said the project which started in 2020 experienced delays and government was compelled to part ways with the initial contractor and Galley Holdings was engaged to complete it.
He said despite the fact that the project was delayed and delivered late, it was delivered within budget.
Staff complement of Kaudwane police post, he said comprised six officers being a sergeant, three constables and two special constables.
Area MP, Mr Tshoganetso Leuwe expressed gratitude to a decision to build a police post in Kaudwane and pleaded with government to consider building police stations in other area within the constituency.
Mr Leuwe called for the intensification of the stock theft unit, saying its launch in Letlhakeng recently brought hope to farmers.
Kgosi Tsholo Segwaba of Kaudwane said the facility would help curb lawlessness and urged the community to report all forms of crime.
He said the vehicle would make the police mobility easy.
