Africa-Press – Botswana. The Chinese Embassy in Gaborone, Botswana has handed over a weather station to the government of Botswana, with the aim of helping to improve the country’s ability to deal with climate change.
Chinese Ambassador to Botswana Mr. Wang Xuefeng has said that the system for receiving and processing satellite data provided by the Chinese government will provide great support to Botswana in monitoring the environment, agricultural production and dealing with the challenges of adverse weather events, in order to help the country achieve its goals of sustainable development that is friendly to the environment.
The Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism of Botswana, Mrs. Grace Muzila, received the center on behalf of the government of Botswana and thanked the Chinese government for the support. He has said that frequent drought increases water scarcity and thus adversely affects people’s health and productivity. The aid will help in dealing with the effects of climate change and strengthen the ability to protect people’s lives and property.
