Africa-Press – Botswana. LPresident Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has handed over beef packages to the Botswana Defence Force contingent based in Pemba, Mozambique.
Speaking during the handing over, President Masisi commended the BDF troops for executing their mandate with diligence despite challenges.
“I am delighted to express our unified thanks as a nation for your service.
I do so on behalf of the people of Botswana and on behalf of SADC member states who resolved, unanimously, to deploy troops to come and assist the Republic of Mozambique,†he said.
President Masisi said Parliament had approved several budget proposals in support of financing the SAMIM troops.
Additionally, he said the nation was also in full support of the troops.
“I can assure you, we have also resolved, as leaders of SADC, that we have entered SADC scenario five and we are on an exit plan therefore by July 2024, this mission should come to an end,†he said.
Receiving the beef packages, the BDF contingent commander, Lieutenant Colonel Bojosi Pheko appreciated President Masisiâ€TMs visit highlighting that it epitomised Botswanaâ€TMs commitment to the people of Mozambique.
“We are privileged to have your leadership and guidance as it will motivate the troops to serve the nation with pride,†he said.
The combined and sustained efforts of SAMIM and other cooperational partners, he said had resulted in significant operational operations and had attained several significant milestones towards bringing peace and stability in the Cabo Delgado province in Mozambique .
