Africa-Press – Botswana. Botswana Public Service College has been urged to focus on upskilling the public service to better serve with dedication, knowledge, and skill. Speaking during the college’s awards ceremony in Gaborone recently, Ms Gaone Macholo, Director of the Directorate of Public Service Management (DPSM) emphasised that DPSM had the responsibility of ensuring the relevance of the public service, thus contributing to a high-performing government known for its culture of excellence.

She stressed that a high performing government was essential for the realisation of Botswana’s national vision, aiming for high-income status.

Ms Macholo underscored the integral role of the college in attaining this national vision.

She noted that hard work, dedication, and positivity were essential for employees to be proactive and accountable in their roles.

Recognising the importance of employee appreciation, Ms Macholo emphasised that valued employees were more likely to serve the public better, ultimately enhancing the lives of citizens.

She further said that appreciated employees were more engaged, helpful and willing to go the extra mile for the organisation. Ms Macholo also highlighted the improved reach of BPSC across the country, attributing it to a better understanding of customer service.

She mentioned that with the merger with organisations like the Botswana National Productivity Centre (BNPC) and ultimately with IDM, BPSC would be poised to do even more.

Ms Colleen Diswai, Acting Executive Director of Botswana Public Service College, stated that the award ceremony aimed to promote good performance and encourage a healthy competitive spirit among employees.

This, she mentioned, was also a way for management to recognise and appreciate the efforts of each employee.
