Africa-Press – Botswana. Member of Parliament for Mochudi East, Mr Mabuse Pule has cautioned civil servants who fail to provide quality service as that hindered developments.
Speaking during a consultative kgotla meeting in Malolwane and Ramonaka recently, Mr Pule urged civil servants to embrace Mindset Change initiative and be more productive.
He said delayed maintenance projects by the district council should not be condoned as it impacted negatively on the economy and failed government’s mandate of providing proper services and improving the lives of Batswana.
Mr Pule called on public officers to do the needful.
Though aware of challenges such as shortage of accommodation, transport and equipment, Mr Pule said such should not be used as an excuse for public officers to drag their feet.
This came after the village development committee chairperson of the two villages, Ms Kgomotso Phiri of Ramonaka and Mr Amos Ngwato of Malolwane complaining about poor service delivery in government offices.
The VDC chairpersons shared a concern that provision of stationary for pupils and maintenance of government schools delayed because of poor service delivery.
They also complained about poor storm water drainage and the lack of accommodation for civil servants but thanked government for increasing the number of Ipelegeng workers in their villages.
Malolwane Councillor, Mr Stephen Makhura said that civil servants who overstayed ended up being unproductive.
He said those not doing enough should be made to account.
Cllr Makhura encouraged the VDC to include projects not in the Transitional Development Plan in the National Development 12 Plan to push developments in the villages.
