MOAGI EXPRESSES DISPLEASURE ON SLOW PACE OF PROJECTS

Africa-Press – Botswana. The Member of Parliament for South East who is also the Minister of Minerals and Energy, Mr Lefoko Moagi, has expressed displeasure on the slow pace of some projects in Ramotswa.

Consulting on the progress of the Magope-Disane Water Project with the Project Manager, Mr Oteng Mamparanyane, Mr Moagi said the project had stagnated since October 2023.

Mr Moagi said the populace had put pressure on him since it was noticeable that the 500 cubic litres water tank and the 3.4 kilometers water pipeline construction company, Savanna Oils was not making progress.

He also said the contractor was to discuss changes with the client, being the Water Utilities Corporation (WUC), to proceed as time was running out.

He said the company had to make opportunistic progress while waiting for instructions and the design alterations that were sighted as an impediment to progress.

Mr Moagi said something had to be done to get the pipeline under the main Ramotswa road as the dual project of the road had not commenced.

“We have been building the three interchanges in Gaborone and they dug out power cables, water lines, fibre optic and relocated them.

It’s like someone does not want this project completed,” he noted.

The MP said he was also aware that testing had to be done before covering the pipeline but something had to be done.

He said it was important for all the relevant stakeholders to have written contracts so as to adhere to terms. He also said some things could have been resolved on site if the WUC site engineer resided on the site. He advised that all the concerned parties meet and discuss issues to make progress. Mr Mamparanyane said when they got the tender, they had agreed to thrust bore under the existing culvert.

He said the Roads Department had opted to thrust bore under the culvert rather than go through the road.

He said they could not make progress since pipes were shallow and protruded from the ground. He promised that the pipeline would be completed by February 10, 2024.
