Africa-Press – Botswana. Ramotswa Member of Parliament, Mr Lefoko Moagi has encouraged Otse residents to utilise the new Temo Letlotlo agricultural programme, which has replaced ISPAAD.
Mr Moagi, who was addressing a kgotla meeting in the village on Wednesday briefed residents about a number of issues amongst them Temo Letlotlo and development projects to be undertaken through the Constituency Community Projects (CCPs).He said Temo Letlotlo was a useful programme, adding that since it was new, there were teething challenges, which would be addressed.
MP Moagi said unlike ISPAAD, Temo Letlotlo covered 13 different plants hence could be taken throughout the year, not only during the rainy season.
He further informed them that people earning less than P4 000 per month would be given free assistance. The MP said the water situation in the village was expected to improve after the completion of the Mmamashia project.
He explained the village would be connected to the North South Carrier pipeline through the Lobatse Water Master Plan. MP Moagi said following the completion of the Mmamashia project, two standpipes would be installed in the village.
He said some internal roads would be upgraded through the CCPs. He said not all roads in the village would be upgraded as the CCP funds were to benefit all villages in the constituency.Mr Moagi further informed the residents about the new minimum wages for herdsmen and maids.
The MP also briefed the residents about changes in the Pensions Act, indicating that retirees were now allowed to cash out 50 per cent of their total amount tax free.
The MP also informed residents that the company that had been exploring for manganese in the area had applied for a mining license.He said this would result in employment opportunities for the residents.
