EXPORTERS ASSOCIATION VITAL FOR VISION 2036 - SEBETLELA

Africa-Press – Botswana. Botswana Exporters and Manufactures Association (BEMA) has been described as an important vehicle toward achieving some of the ideals of Vision 2036.

Speaking that the Mindset Change seminar organised for BEMA members, Chief of Staff in the Office of the President, Mr Boyce Sebetlela said Vision 2036 was about growing Botswana’s manufacturing base alongside the country’s exports.

He said it would be of paramount importance to ensure that the minerals sector, which accounts for about 70 per cent of the country’s exports, is reduced and replaced by other products.

“Those other things clearly must come from BEMA, because in your name there are words exporters and manufacturing, so clearly if there is an organisation that we have to be engaging and facilitating more and making them part of NDP 12 discussions it’s BEMA,” he said.

Mr Sebetlela urged BEMA to be vocal about what should happen in NDP12 regarding manufacturing and export promotion.

For his part, BEMA president, Mr Rajiva Chandra encouraged the association members to accept change as it was the only thing that would help them all to grow.
