Africa-Press – Botswana. President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has expressed confidence in the new commissioners of the Botswana Police Service and Botswana Prisons Service.
Dr Masisi expressed his confidence in the new leaders on Friday at the pinning ceremony of the new Commissioners, Ms Dinah Marathe of Botswana Police Service and Mr Anthony Mokento, who has taken over the reins at Botswana Prisons Service.
He said he had confidence that the two would revitalise their respective organisations. I have full confidence in the two of you. My appointing you was genuinely meant for you to go and revitalise your organisations to perform at a level that you have never seen in your lives,†he said, emphasising that he expected nothing less from them. For their part, both Commissioners expressed gratitude to President Masisi for affording them a chance to lead.
Expressing gratitude for the appointment, Ms Marathe, who makes a return to Botswana Police, said “I have been made by the Botswana Police and chiselled by the Prisons Service. I have been a leader and a mother at Prisons and they are at the centre of my heart. I am now moving back to the Police Service as a Commissioner, the very organisation that made me who I am right now,†she said. She said she expressed confidence on the members of the Botswana Police Service, whom she would depend on for a good service to the nation. Support is already pouring in from all corners of the country and for that, I am grateful and humbled and it gives me courage that I am moving into this new space with the support of the general public. So that gives me motivation to serve to the best of my abilities,†she said. For his part, Mr Mokento appreciated his predecessor, Ms Marathe for laying a good foundation at Prisons. She leaves having laid a good framework within which to operate and move with less difficulties. We now have to go back to the drawing board and draw our plan. We assure Batswana that we will continue where she left off and aspire to even go higher,he said. Mr Mokento said he had also been given assurance by the support he had been given by his colleagues ever since his elevation.
